Although no two communities are alike, the issues they deal with are surprisingly similar. Community Associations Institute (CAI) has been the leader in providing proven education and resources for community associations across the country for more than 30 years. Through a multidisciplinary membership, CAI brings together experts to develop solutions that help take the guesswork out of community association management, operations and governance.

A Second Time Around

Once again I am honored to have the privilege to serve as the president of the CAI New England Chapter. Having also been elected to this position in 2005, I am hoping in the coming months to utilize the lessons learned from that first opportunity to make this second bite at the apple even better.

In 2005, the board adopted a 5-year Strategic Plan, and I am pleased to report that volunteer leaders and staff have accomplished its objectives, with a primary focus to create a better organization for all chapter states. CAI-NE is now very active and successful in all our chapter states which include Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Vermont, boasting consistently well attended educational programs, membership increases and more volunteer participation as well as new chapter benefits and services along with expanded regional forums and expos. In addition, Legislative Action Committees (LACs) are active in all states following the authorization and approval of the Vermont LAC (VTLAC) in late 2009.

A new Strategic Planning Task Force comprised of homeowners, managers and business partners from all four chapter states will review and update the plan making recommendations to the board. My goal in the coming months is to position the chapter to implement the plan as adopted by the board. As always, member input, insight, and questions are welcomed and can be emailed to info@caine.org.
